Toată săptămâna asta a fost plină de amintiri. Aproape în fiecare dimineață îmi treceau prin minte idei precum: “Anul trecut, pe vremea asta ne pregăteam de petrecerea în care ne dădeam prietenilor toată averea” sau “Acum un an eram în avion către Brazilia” sau “Cum l-am sărbătorit pe Florică anul trecut? Parcă cu salată de vinete și caipirinha”.

Da, pe 22 martie 2011 plecam din România către Piracanga, locul unde speram noi să trăim mulți mulți ani. Toată experiența acestei călătorii este încă foarte vie în mintea și sufletul nostru. Cred eu pentru că a fost trăită cu fiecare părticică a corpurilor noastre.
Au fost doar 2 luni (aproape), dar se simt de parcă au fost 3 ani. Ne-am întors de 1 an (aproape), dar simțim că parcă ne-am întors ieri.

Atunci când viața este trăită cu adevărat, atunci când îți urmezi instinctele și dorințele cu tot sufletul, amintirile devin realitate, indiferent cât de mult timp a trecut.

Îmi iubesc viața, îmi iubesc familia, iubesc dorința asta vie mereu de a face lucruri pe care cu ani în urmă nici nu mi-aș fi imaginat că le pot face, iubesc dorința încă vie de a călători în lumea largă, iubesc puterea copiilor mei de a învăța și de a se adapta lumii și oamenilor din jurul lor, îi iubesc pe toți cei care mi-au devenit prieteni adevărați, iubesc mamele care văd viața copiilor lor ca și mine, iubesc primăvara, iubesc viața.

Avem în curte o salcie. De o săptămână trece printr-un proces uimitor: înfrunzește. E absolut minunat să văd cum în fiecare zi mugurii i se deschid din ce în ce mai mult și în locul lor apar frunze. E o lecție pură de viata. Salcia asta îmi aduce aminte de viata copiilor mei. Cum cresc fizic, psihic și emoțional în fiecare zi, cum sunt aproape “blank” în prima zi și apoi devin din ce în ce mai cunoscători, mai știutori, mai înfloritori. E absolut minunat să îi văd crescând așa. Și odată ce îi pot urmări atât de aproape realizez cât de nesănătos și de nenatural ar fi ca ei să crească departe de noi, părinții lor. Pentru mine, departele ăsta înseamnă grădiniță, bunici sau bonă.

Și mi-am mai dat seama de un lucru. Cât sunt de fericită că am posibilitatea de a asista la toată frumusețea asta de viață. Nu cred că e noroc sau destin. Cred că e un drum croit cu mâinile, inima și mintea noastră. E minunat să ai alături un om cu care tragi căruța în aceeași direcție. Anul ăsta contorul ajunge la 7 :) Și îi mulțumesc din tot sufletul pentru asta. Chiar și aici, amintirile devin realitate.

Dragilor, oriunde ați fi, pe oricine ați avea alături, orice lucru ați face, fiți fericiți cu deciziile luate și cu viața în general. Asta vă va aduce liniște, deschide drumuri, apropria oameni minunați, creea relații pentru o viață. E un sentiment minunat și greu de transpus în cuvinte. Dar merită trăit, chiar din plin!


Country life goes on

We passed several phases after we decided to radically change our lifestyle and the place we live: the first one was super enthusiastic, then we had the reconfirmation that we’ll move from Bucharest into the brazilian jungle, then the months when we were notifying our family and friends about our decision, answering over and over again the same questions. Of course we couldn’t miss the phase of planning and budgeting with all the hassle that comes along.
Just before the last phase we started to feel uncomfortable and in the last days before leaving we felt a mix of happiness, enthusiasm, longing, fears and frights, hesitation, uncertainty and impatience.

This cocktail had a greater effect than any “U-boat” or a “Mongolian” that we ever drank. It just anesthetized us. And I left like that with “my life in 5 suitcases”, a 10 months child and a dizzy husband from all these events, to the other hemisphere, at the end of the world, in the land of far far away.

On the way, while the lovely child slept the 12 hours we spent flying over the ocean, we were thinking on an on about how it’s going to be and we were starting to plan our life for the next five years.

Before leaving, we were telling everyone that if we find something that we don’t like, we just come back, as we are not knocked in the head and nothing keeps us tied there. This is what we were saying.

Actually we were talking about how much we’ll love it and how we’ll spend there many years. This is what we were feeling.

And, as we are used to feel more and think less, especially since we are parents, we walked on Ilheus airport with the above mentioned feelings.

At the airport, the smiles of Câmpeanu family (which we miss a lot and we kiss lots of times) reconfirmed our feelings, therefore we went further to our final destination, Piracanga eco-village from Bahia region, Brazil.

We didn’t stay there for years, as we initially thought, but only 7 weeks. But these 7 weeks spent in Piracanga were maybe the most intense seven weeks that I ever lived. Many things happened and all of them were on FFD. The feelings cocktail was stronger than even a “Long Island Ice Tea”. If we were anesthetized before leaving Romania, now we were in a physical and mental coma. We’ll probably tell more about that in a separate blog post.

During this time, at a certain moment, after a week of knocking our heads agains the walls, we came back to life and our future started to shape up.

The most beautiful thing was that the future was shaping up with a whole list of wishes that only the experience we lived could help us discover.

So we took the decision to come back to Romania. But where?
At our parents? As we didn’t have a house or even an apartment to rent.
In Bucharest? Nooo… we definitely didn’t want to live in a block of flats anymore.
In Timişoara? Hmmm… This could have been a choice, but not the desired one.
In Afumaţi? Maybe, because the very nice house that my husband saw would have been very nice for us. Too bad it was taken before the girls could see it.
In Gulia? YEEESSS, this is it, we want to live in Gulia, Dâmboviţa county, at some 15 km from Bucharest, where we rented a wonderful house :)

Therefore our life in the country side goes on. As nice and beautiful as in Piracanga, because we are together, because Nadia has a lot of place to crawl, sorry walk (recently :-) ) and where to eat grass and stones, because we already have friends coming over in week-ends, because our view from the house with the fields full of flowers or corn are beautiful, because in the morning we can smell everywhere the linden trees from the nearby forest  and because the silence makes us feel more than think.

We like it in the country side. The cities will probably be just some ocasional destinations for going out, shopping or visit friends.

We believe that we “found our place” for the moment. And yes, as strange as it might seem, we needed a trip to Brazil and back to find it. This was our road and we are so happy that we found the guts to do it, no matter what it meant. And of course this gives us the wings to always fly and find “the place” where we feed good and where all 4 of us are happy.

Like Nike is saying “JUST DO IT!”. I would say on top of that “BECAUSE LIFE IS WORTH LIVING!”.


Easter in Piracanga

In the last 6 years we spent Easter either with our families (3 times), either traveling and enjoying holidays with old or new friends (3 times).
Every time we were away from Romania we were prepared to have on the Easter lunch some of the Romanian traditional food, especially red eggs and “cozonac” – a sort of a sweet bread with raisins, nuts and cocoa.

This year, for Easter we were enjoying a brunch at Casa Piracanga (owned by the French couple Didier and Sandrine) with our Romanian friends, Laura and Florian and their gorgeous Sasha, Olivia and Marcello, a beautiful mixed couple (Olivia is Spanish and Marcello is Brazilian), Olivia’s mum – Vallery – and 4 of Olivia’s friends that came from Spain, Sam and Liz, another beautiful mixed (Sam is Lebanese and Liz is American).

Every person/couple came with some traditional food of their own cuisine. Finally, the table was full of extremely good things.
We prepared the red eggs, fresh cheese, oriental salad, mayonnaise and a fruit cake.
Laura and Florian brought the famous Romanian eggplant salad, tomatoes salad and cozonac.
Sam and Liz cooked many chapati, baba ganoush and some sauce of many different herbs which was served on hot chapati.
Didier and Sandrine took care of the fresh home-made bread and also some sweet magdlennes.
The Spanish troupe came with some tortillas con patatas, gazpacho and toppings for gazpacho.

The whole food was delicious and everybody enjoyed the tastes and flavors along with many smiles and nice discussions. Nadia and Sasha tasted almost all the food, of course in smaller quantity then their parents ;) .

Of course we missed some other traditional food that we were not able to cook here, but we are hoping next year we will be together with our families and solve this tasting issue.

We hope that every one of you had an amazing time on Easter with the ones you love and cherish. For sure we did and we are very happy about it even if we are writing about it 3 weeks later. What can you do, time goes by at a different pace around here :P

Le Petit Bistro

Last Thursday I had the great pleasure to take my dear wife to a restaurant. And not any restaurant, but a french one. And not anywhere, but in Piracanga, at the end of the world that is this time on the coast of sunny Brazil. Yes, we didn’t even had to go out of the small eco-village that we live in for a month in order to fully enjoy the french cuisine.

This was possible due to the french couple Didier and Sandrine, that organized a “Petit Bistro” in their “Casa Piracanga”. They come here several times a year and they stay about 2-3 weeks, therefore such an event is not to be missed.

When we got to their place (just to be clear, we walked for exactly 3 minutes from our house, enjoying on the way an almost full moon) we found the tables arranged and some of the people already there, ready to eat the smelly goodies of the french guys.

I found my way to the kitchen trying to catch the cooks in action, but the starters were already done. The plates were set and ready, just a few more people were missing.

Before starting to eat we were served with a drink made of bad quality white wine (Didier told us) and very sweet maracuja (passion fruit) liquor. The result was similar with Porto wine, more tasty, pretty good in the given circumstances.

The guests slowly appeared, therefore the starters were served. A delicious tarte with some kind of melted cheese, tomatoes, herbs and olives:


Besides that we’ve got a mini fruit-vegetable salad, with a tasty sauce and some raisins:


The starter came with a white and cold wine (called Petit Bistro, of course). Everybody was drooling waiting for the main dish – fish made in the oven – dorado to be more precisely:



The taste was excellent considering we didn’t have any fish for quite some time. The same white wine made this course smooth even if we were quite full. This is because we usually eat at dinner just a shake that we made out of fresh fruits with a bit of milk, mixed in the blender. Well, the french DINNER wasn’t over yet :)

And how could we go to a french restaurant without eating cheese? This time Didier and Sandrine picked up a ROLA of “Petit Brie”, served on a slice of home-made bread with raisins, together of course with a glass of red wine, Petit Bistro as well:


When we were about to say that’s it, we saw more plates coming :) This time it was the real desert (even though I knew that french usually eat cheese instead of desert).

We received a small glass of mousse au chocolate, made by Sandrine herself, extremely good. Not too sweet, not too heavy, just perfect to enjoy together with some home made yoghourt (with a bit of maracuja on top) and a jam pancake:

We can only thank Didier and Sandrine for a delicious meal. We are looking forward to the next Petit Bistro that will take place this Friday ;-)
