La invitaţia unor amici, ne-am făcut bagajul, ne-am luat copilul în mei-tai şi am urcat în trenul către Tulcea.

Călătoria cu trenul de aproape 3 ore cu un copilul de 1 an şi 3 luni din dotare a fost excepţională. Din Tulcea ca să ajungem la Sulina (destinaţia finală a excursiei) am luat o barcă plină ochi de oameni şi am mai călătorit încă 3 ore. Copilul a fost excepţional din nou, lucru pentru care îi mulţumesc din suflet.

Odată ajunşi în Sulina, ne-am instalat la aşa-zisa pensiune şi am ieşit în “oraşul” cu 5 străzi. Din punctul meu de vedere oraş e prea mult spus pentru ce am văzut acolo. Treaba cu cele 5 străzi mi s-a părut iniţial haioasă şi greu de crezut, dar în realitate Sulina are 5 străzi denumite simplu: Strada I, Strada a II-a, a III-a , a IV-a şi a V-a. Dintre cele 5 străzi, doar prima este pavată, la cea de-a II-a lucrându-se intens la momentul vizitei noastre.

Momentul a coincis cu serbarea Zilelor Sulinei. Asta a însemnat pe de o parte multă forfotă, muzică (manele) dată la maxim la multe terase, aglomeraţie pe plajă, o multitudine de jucării cu luminiţe care mai de care înşirate pe marginea falezei şi un aspect general de bâlci.

Pe de altă parte asta a însemnat şi o plimbare cu barca până la Pădurea Letea, o incursiune printre plauri, nuferi, broşte ţestoase, pelicani, lebede, raţe şi gâşte sălbatice, mult borş de peşte servit la platou, mult peşte în general, pictat de faruri ce urmau a fi vândute turiştilor ca suveniruri de către amicii noştri în chioşcul lor fain “Sweet Sulina”.

Dar să le iau pe rând. Plimbarea cu barca până la Pădurea Letea. Descrierea scurtă ar fi FABULOASĂ, EXCEPŢIONALĂ, DE NEUITAT! Într-adevăr, ne-a plăcut mult tot ce a ţinut de această excursie, pornind de la domnul Cornel-ghidul nostru şi conducătorul de barcă până la pelicanii văzuţi la întoarcerea din Deltă.

Ziua a II-a a început numai bine, pe la ora 9 fără nicio trezire nocturnă şi cu un copil fericit în drum spre barcă. Aşa că ne-am urcat în barcă şi am pornit la drum spre o zonă absolut inedită pentru frumoasa noastră ţară, Letea. Călătoria cu barca până în satul Letea aflat lângă pădurea cu acelaşi nume a durat 1 oră şi jumătate. Am stăbătut canalele Deltei Dunării, minunându-ne de plauri (insule plutitoare la suprafaţa unei ape formate din vegetaţie acvatică, în special din rădăcini, ierburi, rizomi etc.), nuferi albi şi galbeni, păsărele de tot felul, stoluri de pelicani ce survolau grindul şi canalele Deltei sau de broscuţe ţestoase ce se mișcau agale pe frunzele de nuferi.

Sentimentele care te cuprind atunci când vezi cu ochii tăi toate aceste minunăţii ale naturii sunt copleşitoare. Sufletul, dar şi faţa căpătaseră formă de zâmbet. Nu conta că suntem într-o barcă mică, că ţin cu greu copchilul să nu escaladeze marginile bărcii doar ca să simtă şi ea apa caldă sau că barca se mai oprea pentru că vegetaţia a acaparat elicea motorului. Toate temerile treceau într-o clipită când vedeam un nufăr înflorit absolut perfect sau o broscuţă pe o frunză de nufăr.

Apropriindu-ne de locul unde acostam la mal, satul Letea, eram din ce în ce mai entuziasmaţi de ce vom vedea în continuare. Aşa se face că după o curbă pe canal, zărim câţiva dintre caii sălbatici ai Deltei veniţi să se adape. Pentru aceşti cai, anul trecut prietenul nostru Mile s-a urcat pe bicicletă şi a străbătut 621 de mile, pe traseul Timișoara-Letea. Când i-am văzut şi eu, i-am înţeles mai bine dorinţa de a trage un semnal de alarmă cu privire la viaţa acestor cai.

Domnul Cornel ne explica că pe lângă cai sălbatici în Deltă sunt şi multe vaci sălbatice. Norocoşi din fire, am văzut şi noi câteva, albe şi sfioase. Apropiindu-ne tot mai mult de sat, zărim printre pomi turla albă a bisericii din sat. Apoi bărcile localnicilor sau ale ghizilor ce au adus turiștii aici. După ce coborâm stabilim că pădurea o vom lăsa pe altă dată, pentru că cei mici ar fi prea obosiți de atâta drum și lucruri noi. Așa că încercăm să o luăm încetișor câtre doamna Viorica, care ne așteaptă cu prânzul. Dar înainte de asta găsim o pășune tare faină, plină de floricele galbene și tragem câteva cadre.

După ce ne-am dezmorțit bine oscioarele, o luăm pe ulițele de nisip ale satului Letea minunându-ne de căsuțele parcă din poveste pe care le vedeam.

Prânzul a fost minunat și mult mai mult decât suntem noi obișnuiți să mâncăm. Un platou imens cu felurite tipuri de pește, lângă care am primit un mujdei de usturoi adevărat și pâine de casă.

După ce ne-am ghiftuiut cu somn, șalău, plătică și multe alte lighioane acvatice, primim și borșul. Deși era extrem de gustos, am mâncat puțintel, pentru că plachia de pește căreia îi simțeam mirosul ne înnebunea. Din păcate dintr-un platou întreg de pește asezonat cu sos de roșii de grădină am luat fiecare abia căte o bucățică.
Gusturile erau provocate de mirosuri, pentru că în timp ce serveam plachia doamna Viorica ne pregătea minciunelele și gogoșile cu brânză. Cu toate văicărele noastre că nu mai putem, până la urmă tot am dat gata farfuria cu bunătăți. Nici nu mai știam cum să-i mulțumim doamnei Viorica pentru aest prânz minunat, extrem de gustos și gătit cât mai natural.

După ce ne-am mai tras puțin sufletul și copilul dădea semne evidente de oboseală, am luat-o înapoi spre barcă ca să revenim în Sulina. Cred că după nici 5m parcurși, domnița a adormit și a ținut-o tot așa cam vreo oră pe barcă. Apoi, când a dat deșteptarea se tot veselea de nuferii înfloriți sau de păsărelele ce mai zburau deasupra noastră. Asa până când am ajuns aproape de o mică insulă cu mulți pelicani, rațe și gâste sălbatice și tot felul de zburătoare călătoare. Uimirea era maximă pentru toți din barcă, iar fotograful trăgea cadre până când i s-a umplut cardul. Numai bine, că apoi pelicanii și-au și luat zborul.

Ziua a continuat cu noi destul de îngândurați, dar fericiți de ceea ce am trăit, iar seara ne-am petrecut-o alături de amicii noștri la chioșcul de suverinuri. Experiența de a vedea Delta este una de neuitat, mai ales dacă este prima. Cu siguranță ne vom mai întoarce acolo alături de juniori, care vor putea vedea o grădină zoologică și botanică naturală, fară geamuri și fără semne cu Nu dați mâncare animalelor!

Congratulations to Rick Mereki, Tim White and Andrew Less. They did a fabulous job!

For 3 days already Sabin headed slowly on a initiatic walk, some say, Camino de Santiago step by step.

From the many routes he could choose, he took the one called the Camino Frances of about 780km that he will make in approximately 35 days.

Passing over the discomfort state that you know and sometimes seek only to reach the comfort, I think this “walk” translates into a wonderful life experience that you will really feel with your entire body and soul.

I call an experience like this, a life experience, life that worths a single thing, to be lived.

I am happy Sabin that you live to the maximum, without compromises, just like I heard you so many times guiding others to do. I wish you “Buen Camino!”

And one more thing Sabin: Memory is the only heaven from which we can not be expelled said a German writer – Jean Paul Richter. So, come back with many nice memories

Because the temperatures were a bit low, we just shoot some pictures, ate the famous pancakes and meet a very nice gentleman that made Nadia a nice pen portrait.

We passed several phases after we decided to radically change our lifestyle and the place we live: the first one was super enthusiastic, then we had the reconfirmation that we’ll move from Bucharest into the brazilian jungle, then the months when we were notifying our family and friends about our decision, answering over and over again the same questions. Of course we couldn’t miss the phase of planning and budgeting with all the hassle that comes along.
Just before the last phase we started to feel uncomfortable and in the last days before leaving we felt a mix of happiness, enthusiasm, longing, fears and frights, hesitation, uncertainty and impatience.

This cocktail had a greater effect than any “U-boat” or a “Mongolian” that we ever drank. It just anesthetized us. And I left like that with “my life in 5 suitcases”, a 10 months child and a dizzy husband from all these events, to the other hemisphere, at the end of the world, in the land of far far away.

On the way, while the lovely child slept the 12 hours we spent flying over the ocean, we were thinking on an on about how it’s going to be and we were starting to plan our life for the next five years.

Before leaving, we were telling everyone that if we find something that we don’t like, we just come back, as we are not knocked in the head and nothing keeps us tied there. This is what we were saying.

Actually we were talking about how much we’ll love it and how we’ll spend there many years. This is what we were feeling.

And, as we are used to feel more and think less, especially since we are parents, we walked on Ilheus airport with the above mentioned feelings.

At the airport, the smiles of Câmpeanu family (which we miss a lot and we kiss lots of times) reconfirmed our feelings, therefore we went further to our final destination, Piracanga eco-village from Bahia region, Brazil.

We didn’t stay there for years, as we initially thought, but only 7 weeks. But these 7 weeks spent in Piracanga were maybe the most intense seven weeks that I ever lived. Many things happened and all of them were on FFD. The feelings cocktail was stronger than even a “Long Island Ice Tea”. If we were anesthetized before leaving Romania, now we were in a physical and mental coma. We’ll probably tell more about that in a separate blog post.

During this time, at a certain moment, after a week of knocking our heads agains the walls, we came back to life and our future started to shape up.

The most beautiful thing was that the future was shaping up with a whole list of wishes that only the experience we lived could help us discover.

So we took the decision to come back to Romania. But where?
At our parents? As we didn’t have a house or even an apartment to rent.
In Bucharest? Nooo… we definitely didn’t want to live in a block of flats anymore.
In Timişoara? Hmmm… This could have been a choice, but not the desired one.
In Afumaţi? Maybe, because the very nice house that my husband saw would have been very nice for us. Too bad it was taken before the girls could see it.
In Gulia? YEEESSS, this is it, we want to live in Gulia, Dâmboviţa county, at some 15 km from Bucharest, where we rented a wonderful house

Therefore our life in the country side goes on. As nice and beautiful as in Piracanga, because we are together, because Nadia has a lot of place to crawl, sorry walk (recently ) and where to eat grass and stones, because we already have friends coming over in week-ends, because our view from the house with the fields full of flowers or corn are beautiful, because in the morning we can smell everywhere the linden trees from the nearby forest  and because the silence makes us feel more than think.

We like it in the country side. The cities will probably be just some ocasional destinations for going out, shopping or visit friends.

We believe that we “found our place” for the moment. And yes, as strange as it might seem, we needed a trip to Brazil and back to find it. This was our road and we are so happy that we found the guts to do it, no matter what it meant. And of course this gives us the wings to always fly and find “the place” where we feed good and where all 4 of us are happy.

Like Nike is saying “JUST DO IT!”. I would say on top of that “BECAUSE LIFE IS WORTH LIVING!”.

There are other reasons why we took this decision, but they are better told while having a beer, or during a walk in the park or maybe in a new blog post

All three of us learned a lot of things during this journey and we are not sorry for anything. On the contrary, we realized that one can do any crazy thing and nothing will stay in the way if there is enough will. And this is what we advise you to do! If there is something that you really want to do, the go ahead and do it, otherwise you will think for long “what if … ?”

Well now we are not wondering “what if we were leaving our corporatist life with “a good situation” and we were going at the end of the world to live in the jungle?” because we know. We know that we have what it takes to do anything that we want to do in this life. And now we want to chill and raise our “belly” and children in a place where we know what’s the deal from A to Z.

We all (3+1) kiss you and as always we gladly welcome you at our place!

The pary was very nice, the chosen location was actually our house’s veranda . The food was mostly vegetarian, having here and there some Romanian specificity, and all the babies including Nadia enjoyed the cake and popcorn. I want to thank again Laura for the help given in preparing the wonderful pão de queijo and the tasty beans.

The trip to Rio brought Nadia some hours on the famous Copacabana Beach, walking trips in the city, a small wandering in some favella looking for the train that was supposed to take us to the big statue of Jesus (which we didn’t manage to see in the end), a climb on the Sugar Loaf and almost a helicopter ride that we missed by a little bit.

Both events found us besides Nadia kissing her and loving her as much as possible. It was very beautiful and she was sensational, beautiful, curious and glutton.

We love you so much and we thank you for the happiness you show and you send us!
We wish you many many years at least as happy and joyful as your first one. We kiss you thousands of times!

Every person/couple came with some traditional food of their own cuisine. Finally, the table was full of extremely good things.
We prepared the red eggs, fresh cheese, oriental salad, mayonnaise and a fruit cake.
Laura and Florian brought the famous Romanian eggplant salad, tomatoes salad and cozonac.
Sam and Liz cooked many chapati, baba ganoush and some sauce of many different herbs which was served on hot chapati.
Didier and Sandrine took care of the fresh home-made bread and also some sweet magdlennes.
The Spanish troupe came with some tortillas con patatas, gazpacho and toppings for gazpacho.

The whole food was delicious and everybody enjoyed the tastes and flavors along with many smiles and nice discussions. Nadia and Sasha tasted almost all the food, of course in smaller quantity then their parents .

Of course we missed some other traditional food that we were not able to cook here, but we are hoping next year we will be together with our families and solve this tasting issue.

We hope that every one of you had an amazing time on Easter with the ones you love and cherish. For sure we did and we are very happy about it even if we are writing about it 3 weeks later. What can you do, time goes by at a different pace around here
